(I'm starting this 'issue' as a way to document, for myself and any others interested, how to get started beta testing JCB. This is a work in progress. Add responses to suggest changes and I'll edit this as we move along the testing process.)

Process

These are 'general' process steps to getting started. Review the Tips area for recommended other steps to effectively test JCB.

  1. Download the latest release from:
    https://git.vdm.dev/joomla-beta/pkg-component-builder/tags

  2. Install and test locally

  3. Report issues here:
    https://git.vdm.dev/joomla/Component-Builder/issues

Tips

Keeping updated

JCB Updates (Telegram)

Make sure that you are subscribed and actively following the posts on Telegram in the JCB Updates Channel:
https://t.me/jcb_updates

Joomla Component Builder (Telegram)

You should also be subscribed and actively follow the main Joomla Component Builder channel on Telegram so that you see general news and updates:

General Knowledge

Understand "Powers" in JCB

Although you can still use all the previous/older features within JCB, understanding Powers is important to be able to fully test future versions of JCB

"Powers is the future and possibly the most advanced feature JCB has at this point. Getting your head around powers will liberate you into PHP programming. So though we are trying to avoid any changes to the GUI and how JCB works now, we are going to use powers to power JCB" Llewellyn (Telegram, 2023-04-02)

Testing Process

What to test

To know what to test, review the recent commits (best solution for specific testing) or review the beta channel change log:
https://git.vdm.dev/joomla-beta/com-componentbuilder/src/branch/master/CHANGELOG.md

How to test

The recommended platform for fast testing is to use Octojoom on a Linux development machine.
However, you should be able to test each release on any system running a Joomla installation.

NOTE: At the time of this writing only testing on J3.10.x

I moved it here, and extended it a little: https://git.vdm.dev/joomla/Component-Builder/wiki/Beta-Testing

Let me know if you don't have access to edit it and improve it.
